'71 250 stroke 8

I am the recent new owner of a very clean 71 250, pretty low miles and I have a ? about the normal operating RPM's.

Ive never owned a car with a 4 spd auto, but It sounds to me like the engine kinda winds out to a hi RPM running only about 50mph. Its def hitting all 4 gears. There isnt a tach so I'm kinda wondering if these cars were geared to run in the upper >3000 rpm at those speeds or if my ears just decieve me. I know these cars advertised a top end of 118 so I know there must be more gear in there somewhere.

Heres a pic of the car, Ill post some more when I get some time. Thanks

You can expect 3000 to 3200 RPM at around 60 mph. Don't worry, these engines are tough and made to take the high RPM. Make sure the valves are properly adjusted and this engine will purr. My 220SEb turns over 3400 RPM at 100 KPH, approx 60 mph. These days engines operate at lower speed and more open throttle plate for mileage.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant

Thank you that is very reassuring. Ill be sure to get a checkup to make sure all the valves are adjusted correctly and the carbs are square.

Thanks again
