1976 450 SLC sat for 3 years, cant get it to run
I inherited this car, so far I have nicknamed it "the money pit."
As I shift my meager wealth to the local mechanic, I continue to long to see this vintage gem hum along the mountain pass with me behind the wheel.
I used a matrix that I found on this site for steps to follow when a car has sat for a couple of years.
So far I have had the old gas removed, the tank cleaned and as a result
I apparently needed a new fuel pump and a few minor hoses.
Took the spark plugs out and put a little in a little oil.
Fuel supply lines ok now, Gas Distributor ok, fuel injectors ok. new battery
Car turns over but will not sustain an idle.
Currently I am told that I need a "Warm Up Regulator" and that I need to get the correct original part number. Any suggestions, Where do I go to find this out?

THE FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGINE OPERATION -
IT NEEDS AIR
IT NEEDS FUEL
IT NEEDS COMPRESSION
AND IT NEEDS A SOURCE OF IGNITION AND IMPORTANTLY AT THE CORRECT TIME. (TIMING)

CHECK YOUR AIR CLEANER AND INTAKE SYSTEM FOR RESTRICTIONS EG: (RAG, DEBRIS, RAT NEST) JUST REMOVE THE AIR CLEANER FOR NOW AND CONTINUE WITH YOUR DIAGNOSIS

CHECK IF YOU HAVE SPARK = NO - CHECK WIRES, PRIMARY, SECONDARY , DIST CAP, & DISTRIBUTOR . YES -
CHECK IF YOU HAVE FUEL AND THE QUALITY OF FUEL.

FINALLY CHECK THE COMPRESSION OF EACH CYLINDER.

I AM ASSUMING THIS VEHICLE HAS A CARB. NEVER THE LESS ALL OF THE ABOVE APPLY TO THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE. IF ANY OF THE ABOVE ARE FOUND FAULTY - STICK TO THE PLAN AND STAY WITH THE SYSTEM THAT IS CAUSUING THE PROBLEM. OR YOU WILL SOON FIND OUT SOONER OR LATER THAT EVERY DIME YOU HAD IS IN THE POCKETS OF SOME HAY WIRE MECHANIC.

I was battling a similar problem with my 250/8. a twinn carb engine. Rebuild the carbs twice, new fuel pump, new plugs, new gas .You name it I tried it. The car started out beautifully but once the chokes opened up, the blasted thing died on me . As a last try I disconected the two regulator ( pulled the plugs out) and low and behold ,the engine kept on running. they are both operated by the carb's vacuum. Uninstalled both of them, put some WD40 inside, blew them out and put everything back. There is light at the end of that tunnel. Good luck.

You might want to slide over to the 107 forum. There is a lot of info there, and a lot of people that are willing to help. Check out the EGv107 sticky at the top of the forum first, to save yourself some time.

Remember: It's not just a car. It's an Adventure.
