1974 280, help please

Greetings all

This is my first post on the forum. I have never owned a mercedes, but have the opportunity to purchase a 74 280 for 2000. The car has no rust (from cali) strong running motor, smooth shifting transmission, decent interior, great exterior, and ice COLD air. I have a few questions about the 74 models. I understand some changes were made for safety in 74. I prefer the older style steering wheel (with the chrome) and the older style (close to the body and less rubber) bumpers. How hard is it to fit a pre 74 steering wheel and bumpers to a 74 280? I believe this is a w114 with a 6 cylinder motor. You experts can set me straight if I am wrong. Thanks in advance for the help.

The bumpers should be trivial. Not sure on the steering wheel, probably trivial. I have a 1971 250 C (114) that I fit an earlier chrome center shift gate (from probably a 1969 or something) and like it much bette than the plastic shift gate. You need go to a junkyard and buy a steering wheel and hub and take it home and experiment. It won't cost you that much.

$2000 for a 114 with COLD WORKING AC and no rust is a good deal. You could spend nearly that much on the AC alone...
