280S Brake Booster Swap

I have a '68 280 S with an earlier chassis number (pre 015700). Mercedes changed the brake booster at 015700. The early brake booster is very difficult to get.

I'm told that the later booster can be used if the master cylinder is swapped as well. Has anyone done this swap or seen it done successfully?

Thanks

I wouldn't bother, if the master cylinder is good than just get the booster (I bought a new master cylinder for $100 on ebay), I bought a new booster last year for $300 (yes my 1964 220S also takes the 0004305530) and then couldn't believe it, I was just screwing around on parts sites and of all places AUTOZONE.com had it for $170, been kicking myself ever since, but that's life.

I just noticed those are reman. so paying $300 for brand new wasn't such a bad thing, the site I bought it from says they're on back order, so I probably bought the last one. :/

Thanks tgikal. Things seem to have changed. Autozone bought them from Cardone, a rebuilder that has stopped stocking the early brake booster. The local dealer (I live in Canada) has a replacement in Toronto for about $1300. If you know of a source for $300, please reply.

Thanks
