Always good to learn from others experience... and cheaper. My main point is that short or long wheelbase, 3.5 or 4.5 motor, the details may affect your experience, but that buying a nice car that needs love and future maintenance is going to be a better time than buying a car with assorted issues. I have been driving 108's (and 111's and 113's) since my first one in 1980. I have owned several 4.5's, several 3.5's (including one four speed manual), six cylinder injected cars, six cylinder carbureted cars, six cylinder automatics, and six cylinder manuals. Each unique, each enjoyable in its own way. Find a car you like, in good condition. Maintenance records help, but aren't the whole game. If the car looks right, top & bottom, and feels right, don't let a lack of records turn you off. Have you looked at oursl dot com? I bought my latest 4.5 from him. Came from the valley and was a very nice car. I need to replace a few seat pads and added front seat arm rests and converted it from column shift to console shift. I changed to euro headlights with Hella driving lights, added 16 inch wheels from a later SL, got the Cox Group bushing kit and added about 800 screaming watts of fun in the trunk. It isn't perfect and I still have a few things planned, but I like my car... and that is what it is all about. Enjoy the search!
