Exclamation HELP!! column shift linkage question!!!

So I am driving down the road yesterday and I shift into second and i heard a sound like a penny is bouncing down the road. Turns out that the previous owner instead of putting the right part to connect the linkage used a farm style cotter pin to keep the arm from sliding over the ball. So I couldnt shift or anything. My question get the right part for it do I just need to replace the bushing inside of the ball socket connector or do i need to buy a whole new ball socket....ive seen the ball sockets online but it looks like they just have a pushout and you still need a bushing. Not completely sure how it works....but as of now I have the ball socket and it slides freely over the ball. Thanks guys

All that matters is to provide a secure yet movable link to the socket over the ball. If u manage to find the bushing separately its fine. Ask the online seller to make sure he's including the bushing by emphasizing that you already have an unbroken socket that slides freely over the ball. Alternately u can get the bushing hand fabricated at a LATHE MACHINE shop.

hope this solves ur problem. PS keep the linkages greased to prevent the bushing future damage.
