Post 300SD trunk will not open

My 1979 300SD trunk refuses to open as of a week ago. All worked well since I got the car a year ago then last week I could not get into the trunk.
I only have the round headed key so I don't believe the trunk in locked.
The key slot is in the horizontal position will according to the manual is unlocked. The vacume lock system appears to be working a usual?
All thoughts and ideas welcome.

If it was just ur vacume problem. it would still have opened by the key.

idea 1:= get a locksmith who is familiar with the benz trunk lock mechanism or get some photos of the mechanism from internet & show them to the lock smith 1st.

idea 2:
the panel behind the seat is a solid plate. behind that probably sits the fuel tank. best bet if u cant manage to open it. get the spare tyre enclosure cut from the underside. open the lock. fix it & get the spare tyre bay welded back

I have the same problem with my 81 280 se the trunk is locked the button goes in but will not open.Do I need to drill the lock out?
The central locking is also not working.
When I do get the trunk open I will convert the central locking to electric and do away with the antiquated pnematic system.

No dont drill the lock out it will have no effect at all. U see the mechanisim is not working. Thts got nothing to do with drilling out the "keyhole" part ... which happens to be the only exposed thing you can work on. If you drill it then you'll need to but expensive new key lock part. Best option is what I have suggeted earlier in the thread. Otherwise try to Pry open the trunk by inserting a flat lever between the trunk lid and key lock plate.
