Does anyone know the spec. for a 12V 4 Wire voltage regulator for a 1965 220SE. I need to know the amps. I need a new one found one looks just like the old one 12V 38 Amps

The OEM alternator rating is 35amps. So a voltage reg. rated for 38amps sounds about right.

I went with a modern 4 phase alternator and eliminated the voltage regulator. It cost $99.00 at Napa auto parts and the new alternator puts out 96 amps. No more electrical troubles since then...

I've never heard of a 4 phase alternator. Please elaborate.
