Hi Brett,
Good to see some progress.
Could you please tell me a bit more about he handbrake you installed? A friend has a finnie with an M117 5L V8 which rendered the original handbrake mechanism unusable. He got a generic handbrake that looks like yours from a hot rod shop (maybe it a lokar one?) but it does not have enough cable travel to operate the finnie brakes. Did you have this issue, and if so, how did you overcome it?
Cheers,
Drew

Nate,

The gauges are way more complicated by adding the C230 engine. The speedo is mechanical, and the C230 trans has a VSS. I will need to convert the VSS to a mechanical cable with a motor to get it to work. The only solution commercially available is about $1000.

The water temp is a capillary, not the tradition gauge/sensor. And the real problem there, is the capillary is broken. About $500 from mercedes (or maybe more since it's been a while since I checked.)

I have not looked in to the oil pressure, so, that may be easy to do.

And the gas gauge is funciton, but it WAY off. When it's full, it says 1/2.

Still, fun to drive, and I get thumbs up from other car guys.

Drew,

Glad to hear from you!

Yes, it's a Lokar unit, and I have the similar problem. Not enough travel. We fussed with it for a while, and got it somewhat working. It will hold the car on a slight incline, but anything other than that, it will not hold. It's enough to hold the car on the driveway, and I keep it in gear as extra precaution.

I do plan to fuss with it some more and see if I can get it to work better.

After I had selected this item, I found an electronic brake, that looks like it might be better. Just has a push button switch to activate it.

E-Stopp Brake

Summit and Speedway both carry it.

Car Meetup in San Jose

Took the mercedes to Ronnie's Getogether at Camden/Hillsdale. Mosly american Iron, but I wasn't the only mercedes there.

I just got a carpet kit from World Upholstry and will be working on installation. I have fatmat and will be putting that down first. Right now, the car is way too loud inside. Can't hear the stereo at freeway speeds. And the car originally came with rubber flooring, so the fatmat and carpet should help a lot.

Thanks Nate,

Yes, I plan on lots of pictures, and details about the install. I have new seats, and new carpet to install. I also need to fabricate a floor, as there is a big hole there, with badly formed sheet metal over it.

I should be able to start the install, the week after next. Stay tuned...

Thumbs up Ongoing Repairs

W110 Heckflosse Project (1966 200)-new.cab.02.13.2012-004.jpg

Thanx go to you Brett ;

For the detailed information .

No matter what it is , I always learn from reading others technical posts .

I'm a big fan of adding insulation and sound deadening mats , always have been since the days o asphalt soaked horse hair pads.... (nasty yes but they didn't retain moisture and stopped sheet metal from drumming) .

So ' Fat Mat ' sounds interesting to me .

You bet Nate! There is a lot to do, but I do plan on posting more photos and details.

I bought the fatmat kit which includes 50ft of the fatmat, and a roller and other tools to assist. And the german square weave carpet kit from World Upholstry.

Pictures to start with. Can't start this weekend, but should be able to start the following weekend.

Thumbs up Carpet & Insulation

Thanx ! .

Will you be installing any Fatmat inside the doors ? .

I always find that makes it quieter by reducing the sheet metal drumming .

More than likely, yes. Depends on how much I have left after doing the floors. Good thing, the doors only need a small patch to be effective.
