37 yrs later dream came true -- W109 is here
I am new to this forum and eager to learn a lot and perhaps contribute as well. I grew up in Germany and my Dad had a 1964 220 and a 1973 350SE. We missed the whole 108/109 body style. I have been lusting for it ever since.
I FINALLY had an opportunity that I could not turn down. A colleague moved to Madison from Portland OR six years ago and had a 1967 300SEL that had been restored in 1987. He never moved the car here. He has four boys and other needs and decided to sell. It is a beautiful car and is now in my garage after a luxurious trailer ride from Oregon.
The car had not been run in the last six years, and my colleague only drove 2000 miles in the 10 years before that. So, imagine all the fluids and seals that barfed on to my garage floor. Now I have brake fluid leaking from the front right caliper; power steering fluid draining out of the back of the left wheel well and in the driver footwell (!); and tranny fluid dripping out of the center of the back axle (transmission!!); and oil of sorts dripping out of the box in the center of the front about 10 inches behind the front axle.
So I have a friend coming over who works on his own cars and we will tackle the issues one at a time. Once we are done it will be a perfect specimen.
If anyone reads this and says " oh I know what that leak is" please respond and give your input.
I look forward to sharing my passion with all of you. Sorry in advance for the Audi banner in the pic. I have one of those as my daily driver :-). My book is I can drive any car I want as long as it was made in Germany!!
