Unhappy OH JOY a head gasket job gone awry!

Background info to my problem here, first page, first post.

Let my friend borrow my car. He overheated it severely, frying the head gasket and cracking the head. Car in question is a '76 300D (115 chassis, OM617.910) with about 380K on the clock.

Found a head, cam, everything. Then I ran into problems.

I ordered a head gasket for a 617-910 and received what I believe to be the wrong one. Some holes are bigger, some smaller, some aren't even there at all. The replacement is Elring 776.769. The original is Elring 617 016 0020.

I've scoured the internet, and I mean SCOURED, and I can't find a matching gasket with the same number and style of coolant/oil holes. Anyone done a head gasket on a N/A 617 and encountered this problem? Its a w115 chassis (617.910) and I believe I got a gasket for a 123 N/A (617.912) or 123 turbo (617.952)...was the design upgraded, and I just use it? I wonder if Rusty would know?.?.?.?

Help!
