motor swap for a 240d 1976

I have a 240d w115 chassis and would like to put a gas motor in it but am unsure of what style of motors will fit in this chassis... anybody know?

If I were you I would put a 6 cylinder 2.8L engine (280). Try and keep it as original as possible. Mercedes-Benz M110 engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Let me be the first to CONGRATULATE you on getting rid of the diesel in favor of a proper gas engine!!

Additionally, while I have great respect and fondness for originality, a gas engine in a normally dieseled car isn't going to win you a gold medal at Pebble Beach. Good on you, by the way!!!

Go with what you enjoy, what fits your budget and skill level, and own needs. The 2.8 is indeed a great engine and will fit into your engine bay.

Are the block, and head iron? Is the crank forged? I find it really hard to find out what engine manufacturing/assembling processes mercedes used over the years.
