New member would like some advice on an 1972 250 Mercedes

Hi everyone, new member to the forum here and located in New Zealand. This is really my first jump into anything Mercedes, have always admired the older models for years. Have owned British cars in the past but now looking for something different.

There is a 1972 manual 250 W114 for sale that does need some work, unfortunately the seller is too far away from me to just go and see it.

Problems he mentions is the the rear brakes are dragging and one of the left rear calipers is leaking so I'm guessing the caliper will need overhauling/replacing, probably the cause of the brakes dragging at rear I'm guessing. I can do most repairs myself within reason.

Is the brake problem a minor or a major?

He also says minor rust, where are the common places for these to rust out? The car looks tidy and straight from the photos and interior is very tidy.
Mechanically its good apart from brakes and I have always preferred to have a manual transmission to an automatic, they use less fuel too.

Are there any links or websites/buyers guide about this model at all?

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Any rust will be in the rocker and quarter panels, and in the floors. Good luck with the car - very enjoyable beats to drive and own!

The dragging brakes should be the parking brake. Otherwise, replace the calipers and the hoses as well. One thing about the the car is that the car will keep going after going though a puddle.

How far is too far?

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant
