car wont start

today for the first time this year (with long work hours and a newborn) I decided to pull out the old girl for a drive. So I hadnt turned the motor over in over 6 months, I empty the gas tank, put 5 gallons in her. The motor turns but the car wont start. it seems like no gas is going to the carbs because when i put a few drops in the carbs, she fires up for about 2 seconds. i changed the fuel filter, but still nothing. could it be the fuel pump? Am I supposed to hear the pump when I put the key on acc? Is there a fuse for the pump? How can i check to see if it is the fuel pump or something else? thanks

You have carbs which means it's a mechanical pump not electric. Since the car has sat for so long, the fuel in the supply pipe from the tank to the pump has drained back to the tank. Get some starter fluid, remove the top of the air cleaner and with the help of someone else, try to start the car and spray starting fluid into the carbs. The engine will run, sort of, and the fuel pump will draw gas to the pump and into the carbs. Then you will be happy, your engine will run and you can drive the car.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant
