You will have to use a form of insulation that is locally available, plastics work well.

ignition upgrade time?

Sounds like the problem I recently had. I thought I could handle it as I was raised in the good old days with points and condensor with dwell and tach meters. I got so frustrated I wanted to scream. A friend told me to give in and upgrade to electronic ignition. I thought $$$ but check this out. Google Hot Spark igngtion and look at their product. I ordered the upgrade and new high power condensor and for less then $100 the car runs smooth as I have ever seen. No expensive controll unit, no condensor points or anything to wear out or adjust.
