OK Power at coil and no power a distributor would indicate the flying lead is bad and easy to change. Also make sure the flying lead connector is not touching the distributor body.

may be a dumb question but the flying lead is the wire that runs from the distributor to coil right?

may be the problem then.....the wire is connected to a regular bolt that goes through the distributor and goes to the points wire.....is there supposed to be a groment around it or something?

YES, thinking back to the late sixties here lol, there should be a white plastic grommet that insulates the bolt and lead from the distributor body.
