1979 240d grey market

i have a 240d from 1979. i'm in montreal, canada. someone told me that every 240d manufactured for the states/canada had electrical windows...
mine don't have. and i'm sure it's not a modification of the vehicule.
the guy said that maybe the car was order straight from germany and delivered here...is that possible? how to know?

By the look of that ID plate it wasn't a grey market import. It refers to federal motor vehicle standards, so it is an official import.

From what I understand the 300D's all came with full options, but the 240D's were sometimes lacking in some.

There is a specialised forum for the W123:

I drive an '83 240D AT (USV). Mine is equipped with power windows and power sideview mirror. From my knowledge, '83- already have these.

Euro cars were commonly built to the buyers specs, so they can be found with strange combinations of options. Most 300 D 123 chassis were power equiped in the states, but it is not uncommon to find one with manual options. 240 D 123 chassis cars were common either way.
