Compare apples with apples

Come on Mr Bits.
To compare a 1966 250se with 108 is a bit unfair ..
To give you an example here in Australia.
My 108 which a few years ago was concourse condition would bring about $10au. The last 250se I saw in the flesh for sale (nice red one) 1968 vintage was asking $30,000au
But a 250se is a very rare car here so s'pose you could ask what you like.
Cheers

This was an interesting thread until the multiple nonsense posts. I got to unsubscribe. Later.

Let's see...
  1. Billy B(enz1) asked 9000 apples for his W108
  2. then I show one coupe going for 7495 apples
  3. and another's here on the board selling for 7500 apples
As was stated early-on in the thread
Quote:
you cant really compare the prices. Only 28 000 Coupes have been build. Thats nothing compared to the W108 series which was build in over 375 000 Units.
Yet, you just witnessed Benz1 confirming he tried asking 12%+/- premium for his sedan - over either of these coupes.

So tell me again what was unfair about my comparison? Where I come from friend - a buck may not be worth a dollar anymore... but an apple's still an apple. Or, if you read Benz1's posts:

Here is my humble apology, and you can put it down to cultural differences if you like, but I approached this forum with a sense of humour and my comment to you was one you might make with a friend over a beer or two.

There was no ofence intended I was just pointing out that where I am, the 250se is a car of quite significant value and I was really agreeing with you given that they are worth about three times what a 108 is.
So Cheers again and I’m sorry if I offended you, it was never my intention

Good grief!

I got my 108 four door BECAUSE it has four doors and rear seat belts, whereas my previous cars have all been two door 2+ seats, and made in Italy.

I can put both my kids in it AND my wife AND feel like a rock star.

People stop the car to take photos for god's sake!

For just over £3500, I'd say that was a bargain.

I agree. Got mine for the same reasons. Just picked up my daughter from the airport with my wife and 2 dogs in the car. Got at least a dozen waves and smiles on the trip. Priceless!

Mr. Bits- Just letting you know that some ppl who are really rich (unlike myself), that realy are into these models MAYBE will pay that much that I asked for. Especially an amateur Benz enthusiast who wants to come out big on a deal.
I can gurantee you this. If you gave my ride a new paint job, or actually just the couple surface rust spots and fixed the rust it would be worth just that. Guranteed. I know enough about these cars now to fully understand what these cars will and CAN sell for. I'm a man with a plan, and I learn from everybody. Obviously I didnt find that "rich enthusiast" who would have bought it for that... so smart sir, please tell me what my car is worth then? Yes, surface rust. Underneath? CLEAN. 60,000 original engine miles? Maybe a little more, but a complete paper trail to prove it. Not just that, but the whole history paper trail of the car. All original and in great shape. Here ya go, let me know. Thanks.

Yep there is no intrinsic value in a car of any sort, no matter how rare, pretty or expensive when new,,, If no one wants it now, It has NO value. that simple.. and as already mentioned, the number of available cars way outnumbers the people who do want them, basic supply and "lack" of demand ...

1990 S-124 3.0 Sport Touring Wagen. 218K + Miles
1987 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 53K miles !
1971 BMW 2002
1987 BMW 325 IS M-tech
1976 Jaguar XJ12C 5.3 V12 Coupe
2009 Suzuki GZ250

for what it's worth

I don't know cars, I just know I like cars.
Here's what else I know...this town is MB crazy. Mostly new, and I'll bet my bottom dollar -90% leased-. Everybody wants to think they are a somebody in a Benz. Dime a dozen. You can't drive a block without seeing one. It's like the freakin' Fatherland around here.

That being said, due to our (Texas) more consistent economy and the fact the new MBs are like rabbits, I have seen more vintage Benz' on the road in the last year than ever before. So there appears to be a real interest here to drive a Benz without looking like everybody else driving a Benz. Guilty as charged.

When I bought my 450SL I specially looked outside Texas for the car, in places with economic problems. I found mine in Seattle, bought it sight unseen then had it shipped. The same car here was $8500, mine was half that. So it might be worth your while to advertize in areas outside your economic region. Lots of people routinely list cars in the Texas cities on Craigslist from out of state 'cause there are still buyers here. For what it's worth.

BTW- with your middle east connections you couldn't find a buyer overseas? Odd.

I wont lie, I feel pretty cool in my Benz lol Not because of the value since that was already mentioned, but around where I'm from, I never see my model around. . maybe once in a blue moon something like it, but not the one I own. . the classic value is what I enjoy the most.
