'75 450 slc adopted by caring party

Hey , Im a major newby of 30 minutes now. I do have english and german mechanic experience from my late father. However I recently adopted an abandoned 450 slc for $250 US in my hometown of Arcata, California. This poor car was left curbside until I left my card on the windshield to purchase. One month later the deal was done. Neglected front struts wore the wiring harness through and fire occured only at the wires, no flames thankfully. I spent two hours grafting wire and rewrapping the harness. Replaced struts, then changed the oil twice, rebuilt all brake calipers, rotors. Now she was roadworthy......????Hmmm......YES! She ran well, only 112,000 original miles and I will take her to have trans drained next week (3 speed).
I have read a bit of the fuel injection on these and I would love to know the policy on adjustment. It runs extremely rich currently. Can the smog be eliminated effectively? I can now see the engine after a visit to the pressurewasher today...........I think I saw her smile at me

There ought to be a 12-step program for old Mercedes addiction--and new ones too for that matter.

Congratulations on your save. Treat the old girl well and she will return the favor.

Don't be surprised
I faced a buying choice between a '73 450SLC for $1,200 versus an '87 SEC for $800 more. The 14 years of refinement won out (my mechanic warned me off these early Einspritzer systems). But both coupes were considered the top-of-the-line in their times. '73 SLCs had the smaller euro-like bumpers & I still admire SLC body lines.

So your purchase price affords more $$'s to invest in her road-worthiness, plus with your euro wrenching experience... she's a lucky car
