If you don't mind me asking, what kind of gas mileage does it get (on average)? I've always been curious as to what the fuel consumption is on the M130 engine.

1982 240D - Daily rig
1985 380SE - Gone but not forgotten
1987 Vanagon - Sold
Looking for a 300SD, TD or TE

Tonight I will be swapping out the Rear axle bushing and installing Pertronix electronic ignition into the 280se.

I hope the new rear axle bushing will eliminate an rhythmic quiet thumping sound that increases with speed coming from the rear of the car...it only happens sometimes...

** When I say "I" I am referring to a helpful forum member off peachparts.com the help is much appreciated

Rear axle mount is in but noise is still there... next thought was center bearing mount or flex disk.....but it seems my center bearing mount and flex disk seem to be in good shape so the noise mustn't be eminating from there.

Rear shock seems to be leaking so I just received some new Bilstein replacements (good source for cheap...I got it next day in CA PartsTrain.com - Hard to Find Auto Parts and Truck Parts -)

So I'll get them swapped out. who knows maybe this is contributing to the noise...

Other than that I had the rotors/pads/ebrake shoes/front wheel bearings installed today. Last night I was getting some softness in the brake pedal and some grinding on braking... I was waiting for this to happen so it was the perfect time to get the new brakes put on.

** Side note, if you ever install Genuine rotors it is recommended to leave the grey coating on them (some people wash it off apparently) the coating will most likely come off very quickly as it is really there to prevent rust while sitting on the shop shelf but they recommend to leave it there.

Car is stopping nicely.

I think a gallon over here is like 3.8 liters

I've hear people saying 12 is normal and a few cases of people saying 20.

I get 260-280 miles on a tank (i guess that would be with a touch left in the tank)

Amazing how much those visors needed a clean... Used some household spray cleaner and finished with a damp cloth and thorough dry.

Was a tight space to do this job. If you had really big hands it would be interesting.

Turns out the pulley is secured on a central post, so I wasn't about to have it all fall apart once I undid the 4 screws. phew.

so it's just a matter of removing the fan clutch from the pulley by undoing 4 bolts, then sliding the spacer off the bolts while its still in the engine bay which makes it narrow enough to squeeze out past the radiator hose etc......then once out separating the fan and fan clutch and putting it all back together with the new fan clutch, then re-inserting and screwing back onto pulley

** I Made sure to carry over the small metal tube from old fan clutch to new fan clutch to ensure the fitment was the same. Used the spacer to grab a hold of it and 'wiggle' it out luckily.

all back together
