portawalls whitewalls bias plys help

I have a 69 mercedes 280se coupe that i need new tires for. I want to get a 2 to 3 inch whitewall. Like alot of people i dont want to pay the big bucks for coker radials or other specialty whitewalls i noticed the bias ply tires are like half the price. My question is does anyone have biasply tires and how do you like them i drive my car on the freeway everyday 75 mph. Also im curious about portawalls how do you like them how do they look installed and can you please post pics i would really appreciate it. thanks

I purchased bias ply tires for a 1963 TBird I had to be "period correct". I thought they were ok for an occassional use car like that, but not sure I would have wanted to use them for an everyday commute. I thought they didn't have the handling , stability or cornering characteristics of radials.

For correct show cars that rarely get driven, bias tires are OK. If you plan to drive everyday at high speeds and in the rain, spend the money on good radials. It will also improve your stopping distance. I bought my radial wide whitewalls through Wallis Wade out of Dallas Texas and I love them.

My Cokers with shipping were within a dollar or two the same cost as Discount tire had for similar tires with a small whitewall. In all honstly, I don't drive the car everyday, in fact, it's parked waiting on a fix for a FUBAR Zenith carb, but when I drove it, it was perfectly good on the road. Love the way Cokers look on the car and I got lots of positive feedback from others.
