I installed 16x8 chrome flat face alloys from a 600SL on my coupe and they look very classy and closely resemble the original hub caps. Some people had thought they were original. I installed studs as they make wheel installation much easier. I found special conversion lug nuts with the "Mercedes Ball" seat and topped off the studs with closed end lug nuts to hide the end of the stud-looks just like the original lug bolt.
I got some cheap spacers and used them in combinations to determine what size spacer to have made since I wanted the tire to be placed as far out in the fender as possible without rubbing. It looks much better than the wheel way inside the fender. Then I had high quality hub-centric spacers made for the correct offset. It all works very well with only a small reduction in ride quality and vastly improved handling and road feel.

More wheel questions

I want to put 15 or 16 steel wheels on my fintail. I found a set of 15 steels off of a 94 w124 300d. The tires on the rims are 195x55 15. It looks like the offset
could be et41. Will that fit? I am not sure of the width. I also found a set of 16 inch steels that are 71/2 wide with an offset of et42. Maybe? Tom at the classic center has 15 steels that are 61/2 width. He also has a set of alloys that are 7 wide and he thinks that would be a tight fit? I really like the idea of the 16inch, but not sure of the fitment with the 71/2 et 42
