Orginal "H" Antenna Removal on W109

Has anyone had any luck removing their damaged original antenna from a 300SEL... I have unscrewed the outer/above fender portion of the antenna but cannot get the antenna to unsrew from the fender...
Please tell me I don't have to remove the fender to replace the antenna...

There's an access plate within the fender, in the wheel well. It's easiest to get to with the wheel off and out of the way. Remove that plate and you'll have complete access to the antenna, its motor and the wiring.

If the outside retaining nut is taken off and the antenna assembly doesn't fall through, you might have a stuck assembly (using a rubber mallet and light taps, it should come loose).
