are the noozle tips to be blamed for noisy engine?

i have my 1976 300D benz with five noozle tips. i dont like the noise when the engine is on. i asked a benz mechanic for a top overhaul. he made the overhaul but the noise is still there. he said that probably its the noozle tips behind the noise. is he probably right? suppose i change the noozle tips, will it probably minimize or prevent the noise? please help. thanks guys..

Diesels are known for sounding clattery. Has it gotten worse lately, or has it always been as loud?
