I have a fantastic 1973 450 SL,, I put the car away each winter.
It has 55 k original miles
I have 2500 miles on the oil and filter (changed 2007 summer) its clean
I started it and now it ticks rick side manifold area,

I drove it 60 miles same tick and then another 30 still ticking

my plan was to change the oil, its very clean but change it,,,
Im woried about it,, the mechanic says drive it and it might stop ticking,,,,

I dont know what to do...

I would change the oil more frequently as moisture accumulated during storage can result in the formation of sludge. The ticking noise may be due to oil sludge in the lubricating tubes located over the solid type cam shafts. The tubes are connected to the top of the cam bearing housings and spray oil onto the cam lobes. It is easiest to remove the tubes and clean using a solvent or replace them with new ones.

Or it may just be a leaking spark plug boot. Find somewhere dark and run the engine.

Oil tubes maybe. And easy to change. (cheap for the kit also) Dont forget that it may be as simple as an exhaust leak at the manifold! Can easily be mistaken for an engine tick. Gaskets are cheap. Good luck. (use a 2 foot long piece of 3/8 fuel hose or vacuum hose and with car running hold one end you your ear and follow with the other end around your manifold if you hear the noise very clearly youve found you noise!!!
