Which one do I save?

I have two 1972 280sel 4.5, One has rusted rocker panels and rusted trunk floor and trunk wells. It has a floor shifter and a sunroof. 104,000 miles on it and is dark burgandy and black leather that is in great condition. I also have another that is antricite grey and ugly orange/brown interior that needs to bee completely redone. It has a column shift and no sunroof. also has 131,000 miles and needs a left fender and hood. Which one would be cheaper to redo? or Which would be worth more once Im done. Could I save the Sunroof from the burgandy one and put in the grey one? HELP!!!!! Im driving myself nuts.

Everything from one car will fit into the other car. Rust is the key factor here. Whatever rust you CAN see, double it for the amount you CAN'T!

You'll never get your money back on those cars. I mean the time and money you will spend on restoration. You will have the pleasure of driving a wonderful old car. Can't nothing give you the feeling of sitting at a stop light when another old Benz pulls up beside you. You look over, check out the ride and notice the driver is doing the same. You make eye contact, you both give that little "too cool" head nod, maybe a shared "thumbs up" and drive off.

Rust is the killer. Fender/hood swaps + painting are minor compared to the rust repairs. The sun roof CAN be changed over but it ain't worth it. Before I'd try to install a sun roof I'd buy a different car.

I second Mike's motion regarding rust. I did a huge restoration on my 108 and I welded in a LOT of new panels. Keep the one you like the most and strip the other of parts and stuff you think you might need later. Personally, I like the floor shifter and sun roof options.
