280SE 3.5 71 coupe overheating

I have a 71 280SE 3.5 coupe. It seems to always had a problem in warmer weather with getting hot while driving either in traffic or on the highway. Last weekend the weather was around 75-80, I drove 50 miles on the highway and still my temp gauge was hovering around 180-200?? In stop and go traffic it will red line.

Could it be a stuck thermostat? Could the radiator need to be recored? Could the timing be off causing the temp to rise.

Another problem is than when I drive on a warm day and the car does get hot. When I try and restart the car say after 20-30 minutes of sitting, it has a very hard time starting. It just sputters, and acts like it's not getting gas. I have to pump the accelerator continuously to get the car started.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest replacing your fan clutch, thermostat and radiator. Timing will never cause heat like that. It also appears that your temp sensor is bad as well, the one that goes to the computer. All simple fixes.
