The 109 racer

Guess this need it's own thread. I run a 89 Jetta in a series called 24 hours of LeMons The 24 Hours of LeMons After having running that car and building it, I decided I want some MB craziness also. Picked up a 67 200 and now a 72 300.

Plans for the 300 include: manual trany swap, bigger brakes, convert to springs from bags, maybe some regrind cams from Schneider cams, generally race prep (cage, wheels, tires, fuel cell, stripping, ect)

picture of the rust bucket:

Performance parts for w126, r/c107, w201, m117, m119, m102, m104 and few other things.

Reproduction 17" Penta wheels coming soon.

How did you get a free Mercedes? If I understand right, there is a specific budget within which you can buy and prep the car.

I can't see well on the trunk lid: is that a 4.5 or a 6.3?

Performance parts for w126, r/c107, w201, m117, m119, m102, m104 and few other things.

M100

This is a stoney way, 6.3 and 4.5 Chassis are different. In which kind of race you will perform? A better solution for you could be a 560 M117 transformation. The european 560 has 300 Din-Hp (340 SAE?) without being touched. The 6.2 M117 AMG version (I am shure they are in USA) is around 385 Din Hp with high torque. The 560 can be adapted to a Getrag 265 or Tremec with some 3.5, W210 and BMW-Parts and will fit straight under the bonnet. In circuit race cars the steal coil system is better for performance but reting with the originale Anti-dive of the 4.5. The 4.5 has the perfekt track Diff-ratio for the 560/500 and the getrag with 5-th 0.87. The motor is less heavy then the original steal m117 and so the servo-steering can be taken off for track use. 6.3 and 6.9 are very heavy engines and costy in mantaince and parts. M119 don't fit, M113 fits like the V12.

best regards Pagodino

I know someone who has a toyota 5 speed conversion. it works well on the M198 but a m100 6.3 will not work well with manual trans because the thrust in the crank shaft wasn't designed to take a load from a clutch.

here are some of the motors I am looking at, thoughts:

6.9: 1979 450 SEL 6.9 MERCEDES PARTS

or a newer 500sl: 1991 mercedes 500SL for parts

I have a 4 speed out of an SL, thought about doing a Tremec 5 speed, dime a dozen around here.

Performance parts for w126, r/c107, w201, m117, m119, m102, m104 and few other things.

Reproduction 17" Penta wheels coming soon.

Curious ... I was under the assumption that the chassis of the 109s were identical, but the engines differed. Can you offer more info?
