im looking for some opinions on a possible 250s purchase.... thanks

ive wanted a 108 or 109 for some time now. ive been waiting to find an SEL
or at least and SE at the right price. anyhow, i buddy of mine has an uncle that is selling a VERY clean, black on black, completely operating, 100% rust free 250s with only 88k original miles.
it has been garaged for the past 10 years and is registered a non-op.
he's asking 1750 firm....
i think its a steal but ii wanted to get thge forums thoughts before i jumped into it.
thanks guys/gals

Gamble says... does it really matter.?.?.?

You can't say its completely operational if its been sitting 10 years.

That being said, it sounds like a good deal, even if you dont believe the 'original miles' story. In the end, value is subjective. For the first time in my life, and with great fear, I bought my 72 that didn't even run and I have no regrets.

If it is indeed as advertised, it is a good deal (IMO, but then I am partial), even if it needs minor work, which it most certainly will. If it needs major work, you'll have to be the judge of whether it's worth it to you or not. Most parts are still available and most are not that outrageous. It should be fairly easy to tell if the mileage is truly 88000 or 188000, especially if it has been garaged all the time. The odometers on these do not record the 100's of thousands. It's very common for them to have well over 100 or even 200,000 miles. My Dad bought my '67 250S new in Nov. '66, and it has always been garaged, and I know the mileage is correct. It has about 165,000 (65,000 showing on the odometer) on it and still looks quite good. It is all original, including the paint and interior (black on black), but shows signs of normal wear. I personally have not seen many original early black on black coupes or sedans around, or on the forums. I also have a black on black '73 280C. Check the carpets, engine compartment, trunk, make sure all windows, especially the driver's, go up and down easily, without binding or roughness, when cranked. Mine still has the original spare tire, which of course is really useless, but it is still original. Also, look at the woodwork, and the cloth beading in the interior for wear and tear. Make sure the heater blower works smoothly and quietly on all speeds. Pay particular attention to the dual Zenith carbs. See if they look like they've been tampered with and make sure the original air cleaner is in place. Just check everything top and bottom, inside and out for obvious wear, tear, and/or abuse, neglect or lack of proper maintenance. All the chrome should still look like new (no rust), as should the paint. Let us know how it goes.
