Cool Looking 2 buy 79' 300SD Turbo Diesel?

My present car is falling apart on me, and a co-worker of my hubbys offered to sell one of his many cars, the 79 300sd turbo diesel the outside is in mint condition but the inside needs a little work, i.e. wood is peeling around gear shifts, leather is off behind driver seat exposing coils, the side door trash cans leather is missing, the driver seat is sunken but leather all around is still intact not cracking put looks loose, not sure if i open the sunroof if it will end up leaking after, radio was a new one but got cut out and stolen. He wants $2000 for it has 300,000 miles but had recently put a brand new engine in so says that the new engine has only about 100,000 on it. are these cars good im a wife with two lil ones? how are they on repairs cost ? Please help! Thanks & God Bless!

I would not buy this unless you are a benz lover or close to it, and are willing to repair/have repairs pretty regularly. If you just need good cheap reliable transportation look at a late model honda or toyota, mazda etc. I would suggest an american model but they didn't get their act back together until somewhat recently so probably a little more money.

Try the w126. There are 350 sdl's and 300sd's(diesels). Interior is comfortable and they have air bags, not to mention ABS brakes. I own a 1979 300sd. Great car but lacks the interior comfort. W116's need constant attention from small vacuum leaks, door strikers, servo leaks and servo malfunctions. With a 300sd(w116) you will eventually find yourself without AC and heater. Not wife or kid friendly. Take a look at the w126. They are safe and get great gas mileage. W126 was the w116 younger brother. Just be sure that if you plan on a DIESEL you look for 17 or more numbers on the engine. If you count 14 numbers, BEWARE, terrible engine. Please read
