Go for it. The parts are all there.
A acquaintance keeps a gorgeous white with red interior 220S at her Palm Springs home.
The car you are looking at has the same potential.
Cheers

dude, my 280c was in much worse condition when i picked her up, and now she is show worthy, and it only took me 9 years and lots of arguments with the wife lol. it would be a sin to leave it sitting in a garage, go for it

I guess you have to have feelings for the car, or car type to complete a comprehensive restoration like this. It takes a lot of time and money, but for me it is no doubt it was worth it.

The engineering and design of these old German cars are impressing. And the feeling behind the steering wheel is indescribable. At least in Europe the value of these cars are significant.

But I just want to say one thing: I am glad I had no idea what I started!

The acquisition (if needs payment) of a resto project takes a lot from the "budget"..... and as bandit96 said, IT'S FREE.... so get it and do not put any timelines on when you'd finish the restoration. That should make the whole thing exciting.

Good luck and keep us posted thru this thread.

I have it on close authority from St.Peter himself that the restoration of a Ponton is a guaranteed ticket through the Pearly Gates. Go for it!

OMG, she's beautiful!!
Compared to similar age cars, you've got a definite restoration cantidate there!!
As Benzmizer so aptly stated, get her in your garage, don't put a timeline on it and just pick a spot to get started. Much of the work may just be elbow grease, not cost you anything more than your time. I'd personally start on the mechanicals, no sense in doing asthetics until you know she's running well.
I hope to see a restoration thread in the making...

Did you get the car?

It looks like a really good and complete car. This should be a good restoration project!
