62 220 SEB axle boot

I'm in the process of repairing all the leaks in the rear axle of a 220SEB (W111).

I've replaced the leaking outer seals and bearings, while I have the passenger side apart I intend on replacing the swing axle boot as well, with a stock boot, not a stapled one.

Anyone ever do this? I'm at the point of removing the axle tube from the diff to move it back far enough to slip a new boot in. Is there an easier way? Other than removing the pivot bolt and sliding the whole tube off?

Any advice would help!...for some reason the factory books I have are missing that entire section ...

I'm right in the middle of rebuilding a rear axle.

While you are there you should assess the condition of the rubber mount connecting the pin to the upright arm. This mount is made of rubber in the middle of two metal sleeves and deteriorates with time, grease and oil. Replacing it as well as the donuts in front of the trail arms, bushings at the back of the trail arms and the center mount in the boot usually transforms the ride of the car. While you are there you should also check the journals on the wheel tube in which the pin goes for scoring.

Don't forget to take the small pin (doesn't know the term in English, but it's like the one used on bycicle pedals) before removing the main pin, otherwise it won't come out.
