I can lock the door from the inside (Drivers only since passenger door button is broken off), and I can tell that the key should lock/unlock it from the outside because it makes the inside button wiggle a little, but it just wont turn enough to do the job. What should I do? I was thinking maybe WD40?
Ok, I now have a new problem. I 1/2 way rolled down the drivers door window, but it wont go back up. Ugh! I thought I would check the fuses today and just go through everything and clean/oil everything. Maybe the hoses to the vacuum are messed up?
The seat belt thing is even wierder now! I found the front seat clasps (female parts) pushed back under the carpet in the back seat floor board. BUT, they dont work with the seatbelt buckle! The buckle is too big for it! I also found some of the old seatbelts pushed inside the back seats. ??? So there are 2 sets of seatbelts!? The ones that are newer (has shoulder straps) has no female parts at all - front or back seat! Ugh! Where can I get those parts?
One more question, lots of the sections of the dash are loose, the panel with the 4 window buttons and the cruise control is just sitting there. It is not connected to the console. The instrument panel is falling forward out of the wood dash. I can push it back (about an inch) but it falls back out. What is up with that?
Thank you all so much for your help! BTW, I'm a she.
Hi Kayla -
1. Regarding the key not working in the lock. Is this true on both sides of the car? What about the trunk? Typically your car would have one key for the doors and ignition and glove box and trunk, but it is entirely possible that either you have a car with a replaced ignition lock. Does the key work in the trunk lock? Meaning if you put it into the trunk lock, can you rotate the key 90 degrees? If you can, then you have the original key to the car and it should assumedly work in the doors. If you can NOT turn the key, then they key you have goes to a later replacement ignition and you need to order the correct door key (which will also be the trunk key). If your key will not even FIT into the trunk lock, then you have the valet key (which would still work in the door locks). To get a key for your car doors you can either contact a local dealer (more money sometimes) or the Mercedes Classic Center (usually less money) and they will cut and order a key for you based on the VIN of your car. If you think that they key you have actually IS the correct key for both of the door locks, you might try lubricating the locks but I don't think that is the problem.
2. Regarding the window - is there no power to any of the windows, or does only the drivers window go half way down and stop? Try two things: first, try it again while revving the engine. My windows are slow and more engine speed = windows work better. Second, get a friend to wiggle the fuse box while you are trying to operate the windows. My car has a bad connection somewhere and if I wiggle the fuse box everything works.
3. Seatbelts - please attach PICTURES. Your car is too new to have Kangols shoved under the back seat so I don't know what is up with that.
4a. The panel with the 4 window switches and the cruise control switch is held in by two ears on each side directly under the power window switches. the ears (L-shaped pieces) are plastic and break. If they are intact, they need to be screwed straight down into place. If they are missing/broken, you need a new little panel. The panel comes in different colors and it comes with or without a place for the cruise control switch so you need to get one that matches. Don't know if MB sells it.
4b. When you say the instrument panel is falling out of the wood dash -- do you mean the gauge cluster that has the speedo, water, oil, gas, clock? That assembly? It is held in by friction. There is a ribbed rubber strap that goes around the assembly and seats it in the dash. You need a new rubber strip. It looks like a big rubber band but ribbed. It's about an inch wide. Very common and assumedly trivial to fix.
