Help with gas milege and current noise

My 1973 450SL 4.5l motor, Just got it in Hawaiiand have put two tanks of gas thru it Primeum and the milege is less than 10 miles to the gallon. Is this normal any suggestions to increase this would be appreciated. Also getting alot of exhaust fumes in the compartment. I am waiting for the replacement muffler since the one I have is leaking out of every seam and the whole front is patched up and the pipe are leaking at the muffler. Hopefully this replacement will help it out. Any suggestion with this would be helpfull also.

Next problem on the way to work the speedometer started to sign real loud to me. I can feel the vibration when touching the from of it. I presume it is the speedometer its self and not just the cable since the needel stays steady and it not bouncing all around but not sure. Do not see any indication of air bags but my manuals have not arrived and I now use this for work so was wondering if anyone could lead me to an easy way to pull this instrument cluster out. looks like have to pull the steering wheel to get to it and hopefully I can just oil it up and take care of the problem and at the same time put some graphite in the cable.

my manual has not arrived yet so any help would be great.

Thanks in advance, someday hope to be able to be able to provide some helpfull information to the group and not always be asking questions. Aloha

Aloha nui loa,

Let's start with the simple stuff. When was the last tuneup? If you're not sure, just swap everything out.

The cluster removal doesn't require for the steering wheel to come off but it is a lot easier with the wheel off. Do a search in the 107 section for the procedure, a number of people have done it.

Felicita e un bicchiere di vino con un panino.
