what else?

hey there

doing some work on my w111 3.5 coupe (euro car but lived in the usa, now in dubai) and wanted some advice what to do while the work is being done so that i do not have to do it twice

im done with the ac, full pipes and wires and compressor and conducer and it works very well

i changed the gasket of the manifold

i will change the oil filter, fuel filter, and air filter plus a oil change (non synthetic)

im in the process of fitting new inlet gasket (just waiting for the parts)
and i will change the rubber that fixes both parts of the inlet

i also will change all 8 injectors (bosh), i have changed all spark plugs (also bosh) as well as the high tension wires that goes with them

i will change the engine mount as well as the gear box mount

front suspension cross member bush

suspension coil (all four), and all four suspension shock

plus both rear lens of the light, one is a bit more faded (found the original with red and amber, was told that the all red isn't available, but thats not a problem as 3.5 came with amber and red)

both the 280se and 3.5 signs in the back

i do not know alot about car mechanics so it better that i ask you the experts
this is my third 3.5 coupe (im 29) and without a doubt this one is the best driver of them all, it feels tight, and the chrome and paint (467) are in very good condition

but i think the past owner just didn't enjoy it as much as he should have, he had it for ten years but had it in his second house

im trying to do a lot of these thing to get to enjoy the car in the long run and do as little as possible fir a bit, i know that with classic cars u always doing a thing or two lol

i have to add that tom hanson at the irvine mercedes classic center has been just a gentleman and has helped me a lot with his knowledge about the 3.5 coupe (and im sure other car as well)

thanks guys waiting for your advice

Congratulations for your new purchase!

When I buy a new car I usually drive it around for a while to get used to it and determine what needs to be replaced and what doesn't. With the price of MB parts it's a pity to replace what doesn't need to be replaced. In your case, as you say you are not too much mechanically conversant, I would first find a good and trusted mechanic who knows these cars well.

The usual thing to check on these cars as a priority are the fuel hoses, as old ones may end up into engine fires. Second thing is the timing chain and chain guides. You can measure the chain stretch by looking at the degrees on the crankshaft pulley when the right camshaft aligns with the mark. If your chain guides are dark brown then they should be replaced as they become brittle and break with the chain jumping some teeth on the sprocket resulting in catastrophic failure when pistons hit the valves. Finally, you should check you chain tensioner. A good indicator of wear is a rattle noise for one or two seconds when you start the engine cold. Also, brake hoses should be inspected. Posting pictures of your chain guides will have people tell you if then need replacement or not.

Good luck!
