Hum... a 6.9 W111? Reminds me of something...

I finally made it to modify and reassemble my 5 speed V8 transmission. I took a 6 cyl G76/27-5 (which I got not too far from home thanks to a lead given to me by mercmad6.3) and fitted it with a 3.5 V8 four speed transmission input shaft, constant gear and front cover. In the process, I also fitted reinforced roller bearings and had a second keyway cut in the countershaft to fit the pinion of 5th gear with a second key as per the recommendations of Pagodino and a friend of his. The rest of the transmission was in very good condition as it had been professionally rebuilt before I buy it. Below are some pictures of my home made MB V8 five speed reinforced transmission:

I took the bell housing off again as I have to fit an helicoil in it as one of the threads to fix the slave cylinder is worn. Once done I will mate it to my euro 5.0 M117 and I will also finish reassembling my LSD rear axle with a 3.27 ratio. I had kept it apart in case my five speed conversion had revealed unsuccessful: I would have then gone for a 2.82 ratio with a four speed gearbox.

I will still need to build a new engine harness for Megasquirt and things will then be ready to be fitted in my W111 Coupe.

yes,I am collecting bits to build a 113,5 or perhaps a 176,5 . Thats why I would like to know more about Autoschmiede's conversion . Unfortunately they are bit secretive about it... ;-)
As Gael found the 6.9 into a W111 is not a happy conversion, although there are quite a few 6.3 W111 coupes about. So I intend to remove most of the floor pan of the W111 and build a better chassis more suited to the horse power and torque of the 6.9.
Regarding the injection, I am going to keep the kjet but get rid of the Ignition distributor and fit a EDIS.I have one on my 6.3 and couldn't be happier with it. I have a problem a while back with the cold start jamming and the car was running really rich. The EDIS kept it running perfectly because of the wasted spark. I don't think there would be many diesels that would smoke as badly as the car was until I sorted it... :-)

Heres a W111 6.9 that was Ebay a couple of years ago.

My 6.9 W111 Coupe was very nose heavy. But I'm sure things could have been improved by working on the chassis. I didn't go that way because the engine needed a rebuild and I had access o a true low mileage 300 hp M117.

Thats why Dr Q installed a full hydro suspension into his W107 6.9 and why most of the conversions done were W112 coupes with air suspension. The M100 is one heavy engine.... but Glorious !!
here is another...a Cabrio with 6.9!

This a W118,5 Autoschmiede conversion, note the W126 firewall and 560 engine.

I wonder how much these cars go for. I also wonder if they start with true cabs given their rarity or if they convert Coupes into Cabs in the process...

Autoschmiedes site seems to have gone but that Cab would have cost around 200,000 Euro. I think it sold at Mirbach for around 180,000 euro and yes they used real Cabs.
There is one listed here for 230,000 euro.

Autoschmiede...

Hi GGR, looks good, where will it go in ? Pagoda or coupe?

Autoschmiede, I have several fotos from under the car, it is a 560 SEC with W111 outer sills, and W111 boot (has W111 tank), the top is W111 but all the techical spec is W126.
Manfred Schmid works on a 500 E-Finny in this moment.
I think more interesting ist the W124 rear end (the W201 is practicaly identical) and it is very easy to fit (4 supports).

The 3.2 AMG Kompressor is very interesting and with the manual gearbox of the european 3.5 (c-Class) a good idea, why did your friend use the pan of the coupe which fits from the 320 Clk?

Best fit is perhaps (appart the M117) the V8 M113 from the CLK 430 AMG (no Can-bus) or the M113 from the E55 with 5-speed automatic like mechatronic does.

The M119 is to wide (6cm) and the M100 to heavy.

A 560 300hp with Getrag 265 or Supra gearbox is another option. T fit with W210 420 E automatic cluchhousing (separated on the G722.6) and flat at the end.

It will go in the Coupe. I missed the Pagoda by a few hundred $$.

Are you saying that the W210 420 E bellhousing fits the M117 bolt pattern?

Hi,My Friend used the whole engine as he bought a complete car (insurance write off) .He has adapted the instrument panel into the car including all the electrics. Until he gets it finished he doesn't want any pics on the Web.
I am also in favor of the W124 etc back end ,so compact and simple. Another guy I know here in Australia is installing a M117 5.0 liter into a finny and I have convinced him to go with the W124 assembly but using the W126's LSD diff head. The 300E is a common car here so parts like diff assemblies are cheap.

I am using the m100 because i like them and I have a spare .... :-)
Which model Supra box would you recommend?. They have been used here for years in various conversions but there are good ones and really weak ones. Most of them use the 5th overdrive gear running against the 3rd gear cluster (as opposed to the direct 4th gear)and it tends to be very weak.
I had thought of a T5 but i doubt any would last long behind a M100 and there are at least 200 different types of T5's too. I have seen varieties of the T5's in all sorts of cars here.

Could you email me some of your pics of the Autoschmiede cars?
I would appreciate a close look at how they did it so i can plan my build .This is a variation on the theme a m100 6.3 in a W126.
