So I broke down and went to the dealer with my $62 only to find out that I will also need the mounting plate ($27) and some sort of clip required to attach it ($16) bringing the grand total up to $105. I didn't have that much so I left empty handed.

As for the lion, I don't think I could quite go there myself. Still, character vs purity aside, i think just about anything chrome will look better than a gaping hole on top of the grill.

Hoodstar

But remember, my friend, Merecdes Benz is Mercedes benz, not a Jaguar with a Jaguar on it, or Mustang with a Mustang on the grill..lol.

Have you looked through eBay? When I had a 114, I bought the whole hood star kit for about $40...

Perhaps I stand alone here, but I applaud your individualism. Many forget that in earlier times the fashion was to forgo the factory ornament in favor or one crafted by an artisan. Even today, would we belittle the Queen of England and Queen Mother for their choice of ornament to adorn the state Rolls-Royce and Bentley motorcars?

While I would personally steer clear of this one, I find it interesting as the only specific-made custom MB replacement ornament I've seen:

For those interested, the last bespoke hood ornament manufacter created those some years ago, but still offer many varieties to choose from at their site; Car mascot, hood ornament, paperweight, trophy and award.

It's not the "Spirit of Extasy" but at least it didn't cost $89.00.

If it's not broke it dosen't have enough features.

Why not mount a dildo on it? It can't look worse.

My car had the ornament actually corrode and the base broke up. I can't believe that would happen to a Mercedes-Benz. I was going to go with the "flat" thing but the wife says put it right and she doesn't care about cars!
