Post 1975 240d 85000 miles impeccable

Hey friends,

my name is Simon and I am a young german fella living here in the US.
I saw a 1975 240d for sale that has only 85 000 miles. Had only one owner who is now 82.

It has been in the garage for quite some time, driven on only special occasions. Besides the rubber parts between door and frame (is it called weatherstrip?), which are porous, the car is in impeccable condition. Engine has no leaking, the chrome is perfect, the interior flawless.

He wants $ 5 500 for it. Is it worth that much?

Should I buy it?

thx guys

it sounds like a really nice W115. I would go for it.

5000 is a bit on the high side but its not wayyy out of range.

If you get it post some pictures.

When you take it for a test drive, make sure the odometer is working. They are a common failure item. Would be nice to have some service records with it.

Correct Miles

If those miles can be verified that price is not so bad!

If records are present, even just oil change records, then you will have an idea if it was driven regularly, at least several times a year. This is key to avoid many deeper problems that pop up when an engine/transmission haven't been regularly lubricated by the movement of the internal parts. Of course you may also need to replace other rubber items such as hoses and belts if they have not been taken care of recently, are the hoses soft when squeezed or show any cracks? Are the belts showing cracks? You don;t want to risk one letting loose on the road, but these are easily fixed and relatively inexpensive. Are the brakes mushy in feel? Ask that he not start the car the next time you are coming to see it, so you can see how it starts from being cold overnight.

Personally I'd probably go for it after a small amount of negotiation if it really is actual milage and this is the car you've been looking for. Show us some pics and good luck!
