Like all W108's and W109's, it's an add on system. Considering that it was the flagship, or Q Ship, of those body styles, it was done at the factory for the hotter climates. It used a YORK compressor which can be changed to a rotory style.

Check out The International M-100 Group for more complete information.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant

The A/C was a factory installed option. It is the same dash mounted system as the normal 280se (w108). This one is a '69 300sel 6.3 (european).

Change the york compressor for a Sanden ( google the name) .Keep the original hoses and use a R12 drop in replacement gas Not R134a . R134 A runs at a very high head pressure which makes the aircon struggle on hot days. Other wise the Aircon will work OK. A bigger condensor and two speed auxiliary fan is helpful in hot areas . There are plenty of places who make a bigger condensor to suit.
