Thought to post an update. Let me first say that I never thought I was going to have so much interest in this car! I saved the email with all the comments. The highest offer came about a month ago at $6,000.00 I politely declined. I know some of you might say I should have taken the money and run, but I just couldn't. Not because I am greedy, but as they put it "because this is what this market dictates these days..." If this was a junk car, things would have been different, from day one... I wouldn't have invested all this time, effort and money into her. Fully understanding that W111's are no commodities, I could not find the strength to let her go... Their biggest issue was with the unknown mileage and the cluster. The early 63 had a 4.1 rear end and the later a 4.08. Both clusters that I have purchased so far came from a 4.08... Had no idea it was going to be so hard to locate a 4.1 cluster. But the Garmin works for me and at least I can log miles now. The overseas transfer fell through, no longer they offer VLA's (voluntary leave of absence) so that made things a little easier. I had the car upraised for insurance purposes and it came at $14.500. We made a custom policy with agreed value the above amount. I am still looking for the correct cluster, or maybe a 3.69 rear end or even a 3.75. If non of these happens, I have another plan, it is a long shot but won't hurt to try. Will go over the brakes this winter, time permitting, but for now, it looks like she belongs to us. I am making side panels for the rear trunk and will cover them in red leather. Will also replace the rear shocks with Bilstein. Other than that, she needs nothing. Thought you might want to know...
