With vacuum lines disconnected and plugged, engine at idle, in neutral, at operating temperature, 10 degrees BTDC.
At apx. 3000 rpms the manual advance should advance the timing to apx. 30 degrees BTDC.
With vacuum lines attached, at an idle, the timing should drop to about 4 degrees ATDC. This is for emissions purposes. If the vacuum solenoids are working correctly (which they never are after 35 years) the vacuum retard mechanism is disabled after 1500 rpms.
Can you tell me what the gap should be on the points inside the distributer?
