Post '72 250 weird noise

the car is making a weird noise when the accelerator is pushed.

like a "wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" but when it reaches aboout 40 mph it goes away unless you floor it.

it almost sounds like the tires are rubbing. i checked it but nothing is touching...

any thought?

Wheel bearings. Front ones are easy to replace and cheap too.

bearings....?

then why no sounds when the gas isnt being pressed or when going downhill?

seems like bearings would be a constant sound.

Ummmmm, let's see if I remeber. Take of the wheel. With a large blade tip screwdriver, pry off the center hub. Remove the brace caliper bu releasing the hex hex nut and bolt, and using a stiff wire or string, secure it away from the wheen housing (so that the brake hose diesn't support the full weight). In the center section of the wheel hub is a nut that basically holds it to the spline - unscrew that with a pair of opened pliers, and the whole brake disk assembly pulls out. You'll see the bearings, with the races still pressed to the hub.

Take a look at the online resources portion of this forum - there should be an article on wheel bearing jobs. If not, let me know and I'll post one.

Reassembly is the reverse ...
