Yet another 114 question, This time performance

I have a '74 280. Is there anything you can do to the engine to increase performance or make it run better such as a different breather or anything?

Basicly, no !
There's not much you can do.. Is it a 280 single-cam double-carb engine, or is it a twin-cam injection engine ?

1991 W140 400 SE - SOLD !!
1973 W115 200 -For sale as project.

There is like a hesitation when every time when I first accelerate. Any ideas on what it could be? I replaced the accelerator pump on the carburetor and that wasn't the problem.

When running well, this engine is spirited if not exactly fast. I find them fun to drive.
If you have hesitation during acceleration, the vacuum diaphram on the left rear of the carb may be bad. Check with a hand vacuum pump for leakage. This is a dealer part and cost about $50 - but it will make a world of difference in performance feel.
Also check for sticking secondary butterflys and the choke plates. These can bind and then air flow is restricted or too open.

A 300D with the 4 speed manual conversion would be an interesting race.
