1973 450SL stalls

Good day to all!

My 450SL goes great exept when I'm in town, after a few red lights it stalls and it's hard to restart. The only way the engine will start is, if I put the gas pedal to the floor and after the engine goes, a big cloud of black smoke comes out the exaust and got to keep the gas pedal almost to the floor to burn excess fuel, after all that the engine idle around 1400 rpm. No problems at highway speed, on hard accelerations or cold starts. Have any ideas what could cause that?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have some skills in mechanic but, I don't have the "do it your self" book of my car. Can you or someone else please tell me where the manifold pressure sensor is situated?

Thanks for your help!

It's on the left fender, with wires and a vacuum hose running to it from the back of the intake manifold. Be sure that the hose is good.

The only thing you can check is the resistance across the primary and secondary windings. Unplug the connector and measure the primary on the outside terminals. It should read approx. 90 ohms. The secondary, across the inside terminals, should read approx. 350 ohms.

You should also check the air temp sensor in the air cleaner. There should be 300-400 ohms across its terminals. The water temp sensor in the intake manifold should show about 325 ohms with the engine warmed up. If either of these sensors are giving bad readings or are not connected, the brain can go rich, which sounds like what is happening.

I did'nt check the manifold pressure sensor, but the problem is repared; it was an hose-clip on the fuel line near the engine, I was losing pressure in the fuel line causing the engine to stall

Thanks for your help anyway guys
