Looking to aquire a W111

I live in the Atlanta area and I am trying to figure out the best way to go about searching for one of these. I have never bought a vintage car off the market before (just a family owned '47 willy's jeep CJ2A.) Would love some advice on what to avoid and the best way of going about looking for something like this.

I don't mind a "Fixer upper" but I don't want something that is going to take my 401k and flush it down the drain.

Who's John Galt.

Start reading, do lots of that, go see lots of cars, don't buy the first one you see - I don't care how good you think it is. There are many to look at, and most of this age bracket have been altered quite a bit - paint to hide rust, accidents, replacement parts, substandard work-a-arounds, etc. You need to learn how to differentiate a good one from one that looks good. Seriously.

Start here:

A good one is amazing to drive; they take you back to the 60's like no other car. Just wonderfully majestic. No car brings attention like when I drive the 250SE Cab; I'm not looking for attention (I'm a driver kind of guy), but the attention just seems to follow that car around.
