1975 240D oil change wrench-special tool
Its the second time changing the oil on my 240D. The first time was a nightmare. I misaligned the canister when tightening back causing the rim to deform and allow copious amount of oil to spew. Finding the new canister was a terrific task and after calling 3 countries I found one for about $80.
I also learned that my 240 has a thick steel underbelly plate that doesn't look like the normal oil pan in the pictures of the manuals. I have a cut out in the area in the location of the oil plug that fits no aftermarket 14mm hex head adaptor. Essentially the aftermarket hex head is too fat. I ended up using vise grips to turn the plug from the outside, but I ended up eating up the rim. I need the right tool. I have the part number
"Mercedes special wrench 14X17 000 589 24 07 00"
and I found this online. I'm guessing this would work because it is exactly the part number but it doesn't exactly match the picture in the mercerdes manual. I also don't want to spend $60 bucks on a wrench that isn't going to work.
If anybody else out there has a steel underbelly plate and has done a oil change, please chime in. Thanks
