Can someone Help with 1975 W115 240D Oil Filter?
New to the forum, but not exactly new to the MB Line of cars. My first car that I drove back in 1987 was my dad's 1975 240D. At 16, it was too slow for me, so I didn't have it long, but loved the looks, great brakes, and the smooth ride. Here we are, 20 years later, and I have finally picked up another one, a 4 speed W115 240D. The problem is in finding a service manual for the W115. Haynes actually makes one for the W123 240D, but I don't know if that will help me.
I went to the local foreign Auto parts store and bought an oil filter, but I have no idea where it goes. There is a canister up top between the battery and vacuum booster that has oil in it, but no filter. That canister is too small for the filter I bought, and the canister does not have MB part numbers on it, so it might be aftermarket. In the picture that I hope attaches, it's the one with a black lid held down by a wingnut right in front of the brake booster.
I looked through the photo galleries of the vintage cars, but did not find any underhood shots of a W115 240D. Anybody have any suggestions? Or can someone send me or post an underhood picture of a W115 240D, detailing the oil pipes and filter canister. Or maybe the filter is hiding somewhere else and I just have not found it yet.
If anyone can offer any advice, it will be greatly appreciated.
