1975 280 ECU?

Good day! I am looking at a 1975 280 tonight. I used to have a 1969 230 and loved it but sold it many years ago. I was a mechanic in the Army until going to work for the dark side... BMW. A couple years ago I purchased a R129 500SL for the summer and again, sold it only to miss it dearly! I am once again looking for something to play around with. It's a 1975 280. The ad says car ran great but stopped running possibly due to an electrical short. I have been reading the forum to try to brush up on as much info as I can and it's been great so far! I guess my question is does the 75 have an ECU and if so, what is it used for if the car is carbed?

Any help is appreciated!

No ECU if you're thinking of a computer. It may have a transistorized spark control box/switch gear. It essentially just boosts the spark to the coil. Sometime during the '75 model year MB changed over to a Hall-effect type ignition so you may not have it.

Best thing to do is to eliminate the points if you have them with either a Pertronics or Crane system.
