1973 Mercedes 450SL 2DR CONVERTIBLE

The car has not be driven for 15 plus years.

The body is in good shape - How should I tackle to start the car.

What should I do, I just bought this car --

Thank you in advance for your response.

This is not an easy task. Old gasoline is both dangerous and highly volatile! It turns into a gooey mess when left in a tank for this many years. The engine should also be drained and refilled with fresh oil. Will it turn over easily with a wrench? If the cylinders are siezed it will need soaking for awhile with a solvent. What is the history of the engine? The transmission? Any service records? Who did the last service? Under no circumstances fire it up until you have done some fact finding. The injection pump can be even more expensive than the engine to replace or repair. When we brought an old car back to life after 30 years of sitting up it took over 14 months. Take your time and do it correctly. The brake fluid and lines will need attention as well as the fluid may have clogged the lines due to moisture. Just for a reference we spent over $8,000 just in the mechanics, then came paint and interior trim. Good luck.
