Battery light - on when parked
New Member - recently acquired a 1975 280, had been in storage so the battery had died.
Problem description, and a bit of background.
Replaced with a battery that "fit" same dimensions. I had a auto parts store install the battery, and the car started fine. I drove the car home, but noticed suddenly my gas gauge, signals, and radio were not working. The battery light was on all the time when driving. (not when parked)
I drove the car to work the next day, no other issues besides the radio, gas gauge, and signals (would light up, but not flash) not working. Popped the hood later that day to check the wiring (perhaps the store hit some wiring, and something disconnected).
Looked at the battery, and they had installed it backwards (positive to negative, etc.) Crap. Normally do all my own work, but figured no one could screw up a battery install.
Flipped the battery around, and signals, radio, etc. all work again as per normal. The battery light is off when driving, but is now on when the car is parked. What does this mean? Did it fry my alternator, or does the battery just need a good charge. Had it on a smart charger overnight, and it still wasn't finished by morning.
Any ideas on the battery light?
Thanks in Advance!
